Disabledchildren.org.uk has been developed, by the disabled children’s charity KIDS, to allow parents and carers to easily book and manage short breaks for their child or young person.

A Short Break means that your child or young person can enjoy and experience the activities that they are interested in with the support of a skilled Short Break Worker and that you can take a break confident that your child is with a trained worker.

The disabledchildren.org.uk portal is simple to use, convenient and puts you in control. It doesn’t matter if you are using direct payments, personal budget, or hours assigned to you by the local authority, the portal makes it easy for you to find a worker, from different providers, in your area and to book breaks.

You can access your account at any time, day or night, and book a break at a time that suits you. The portal lets you see details of the suitably trained and checked workers in your area so you can choose the person who will work best with your family.

It’s easy to get started; all you need to do is register and book!

Can we help?

Taking the family on a trip out when you have a disabled child isn't always easy, and even simple daily tasks like the weekly food shopping can become difficult. But we’re here to help!

The disabledchildren.org.uk portal is a flexible service designed to help you care for a disabled child or young person aged up to 25 by letting you choose a provider who can arrange a short break, which can last from 1 hour to a full day.

While you to catch up with the shopping, or put your feet up with a cup of tea, a trained Short Break Worker will help your child to participate in exciting activities, learn new skills, or just keep them company for a walk in the park.

Workers can even come along on family days out to lend an extra set of hands and help to ensure your whole family has an enjoyable time.

You can use our service in whichever way suits your needs and those of your child, always with the reassurance that your child is in the care of a trained, supervised Short Break Worker who has had a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and who shares the ethos of inclusion. Disabledchildren.org.uk has been development by KIDS with the support of Action for Children. The administration of the portal is undertaken by KIDS. However, any organisation can subscribe to be a provider of short breaks through the portal.

The ultimate aim of the portal is to give parents and carers complete flexibility and choice when it comes to choosing, booking and managing short breaks for their child or young person.
